7th Inning Stretch

They ordered us up for God’s
Blessing of America. The herd

shifted and rose, teary-eyed
but smiling, in love with the pride

of servitude. I wondered how I’d
ended up in that flock of hands

on hearts, trying to remember
the moment of my surrender.
