Dissident Voice is an internet newsletter dedicated to challenging the distortions and lies of the monopoly press and the privileged classes it serves. The goal of Dissident Voice is to provide hard hitting, thought provoking and even entertaining news and commentaries on politics and culture that can serve as ammunition in struggles for peace and social justice.
DV coeditor Faramarz Farbod came to the United States from Iran in the 1970s. He graduated from Moravian Academy and Moravian University and earned a master’s degree in politics from Lehigh University. In the 1990s, he cofounded a branch of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) in Lehigh Valley, PA, USA, and later taught politics in his native Iran for several years. Since 1998, he has taught politics at Moravian University. His teaching and activism have focused on the political economy of labor, environmental justice, media and dissent, global justice movements, anti-war rationale, anti-imperialism, and developments in the global South. He is a steering committee member of the Alliance for Sustainable Communities-Lehigh Valley, the founder of its Beyond Capitalism working group, and the editor of its publication, Left Turn. His articles have appeared on many online news and analysis sites, including ZNet, Monthly Review Online, CounterPunch, Countercurrents, Common Dreams, and Dissident Voice. Faramarz hosts an interview program on the Berks County TV (BCTV) titled “Centering on Peace” to discuss a variety of subjects with authors and activists. He is a frequent commentator on developments in Iran on AnewZ.tv (Baku, Azerbaijan).
DV coeditor Kim Petersen has been a scuba diving instructor and teacher, among other jobs. He has lived in many countries in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, and as such has interest in culture, language, and history. Kim also closely follows events connected with geopolitics, social justice, and peace. Of special interest to him are the rights of Indigenous Peoples and the socialist rise of China, the latter where he lived for eight years. His articles have appeared in many venues including online news and analysis sites, books, and magazines.
On 2 January 2025, DV senior editor Angie Tibbs passed away after struggling with serial heart attacks in 2024. Angie’s bio in life: She enjoys walking along the harbour front, listening to English folk rock, and teaching her feline, Logan Brodie, how to talk. She is fighting against occupation/oppression, war, inequality, injustices wherever they exist, and the destruction of the environment, especially mining practices that involve decapitation of mountain peaks. She has been writing online since 2003, and her articles/interviews have been published in Dissident Voice, Redress, and other progressive media.
