Tony Blair Mourns the Death of Martin McGuinness

Later, he will blame it on a technical fault
but right now the swoosh of noise
battering his words away from the microphone
is less the crackly static of a feedback loop
than the sound of one hand clapping
magnified a million times – a vast protest
of single hands clapping at the unapplaudable.
It’s the sound of pebbles raining onto other pebbles
or a light shower of debris scattering over tarmac.
