Questioning Vaccines is not Fueled by Ignorance

The vaccine debate is escalating. A while back, the New York Times Online published a review of a new book, VACCINE: The Controversial Story of Medicine’s Greatest Lifesaver, by Arthur Allen. Here is a portion of David Oshinsky’s review:

Allen is sympathetic to parental fears regarding the dangers of various vaccines, though he remains skeptical that scientific studies of these dangers, no matter how rigorous, will open many minds. At this point, he writes, much of the ‘antivaccinist’ leadership is composed of countercultural types who view life through the prism of conspiracy theory: the government lies, the drug companies are evil, the medical profession is corrupt; trust the Internet instead….To a large extent, says Allen, this antivaccination impulse is fueled by an ignorance of the past. Vaccines have done their job so well that most parents today are blissfully unaware of the diseases their children are being inoculated against.

The end result is a culture that has become increasingly risk-averse regarding vaccination because people have greater trouble grasping the reward. The problem appears to be growing. As more children go unvaccinated in the United States, there has been a rise in vaccine-preventable diseases. Meanwhile, fewer pharmaceutical companies are now producing vaccines, citing the high cost of testing, diminishing markets and a fear of litigation. For Allen, a reversal of these trends will require something long overdue: a frank national discussion about the risks and benefits of vaccination. His splendid book is a smart place to begin.Oshinsky, David. A book review of VACCINE: The Controversial Story of Medicine’s Greatest Lifesave in New York Times Online. February 4, 2007.

Allen’s book is one in a recent series that gives tribute to the “wonder of vaccines.” The author and the reviewer promote their pro-vaccine views by disparaging intelligent adults and dedicated physicians who have researched the problems associated with vaccines and consider mass vaccination to be the casualty-causing loss-leader of the pharmaceutical industry. The drug companies count vaccine injuries as few, at least in part, because safety is concluded through large epidemiological studies. The larger one makes the denominator, the easier it is to discount the size of the numerator. For example, 231 injured in a study that involved 679,900 persons makes the percentage of those injured appear small.Barlow, WE. et al. “The risk of seizures after receipt of whole-cell pertussis or measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine. N Engl J Med. 2001 Aug 30;345(9):656-61. PMID: 11547719

But vaccine injuries are frequent despite claims that occurrences are rare. Fears of developing autism have been dismissed by mainstream medicine which prefers to attribute the increased incidence, currently at 1 in 150 children, to a “better diagnosis.”A better Diagnosis: What Newsweek Missed, by Dan Olmsted. January 20, 2006. Thimerosal (mercury) has received much attention from the autism community. Undoubtedly, many children have been damaged by mercury in vaccines. Recoveries have occurred using chelation therapy attesting to heavy metals as a cause. However, the rate of autism has continued to escalate despite the removal of mercury from most of the childhood vaccines.M.I.N.D. Institute Study Confirms Autism Increase. The dozens of additives in vaccines need to be investigated with the same intensity as mercury. Answers regarding the potential for toxicity from these substances are still forthcoming.

Another area of research is investigating an association between genetics and autism spectrum disorders.“Genetic cause of autism.” January 18, 2006. The identification of a corrupted gene will allow incriminating fingers to be pointed at defective parents as the source of their child’s autism. A better use of scare research funds would be to investigate which bio-medical treatments are most effective for these ill children rather than trying to blame their genes.

The number of children with illnesses such as allergies, asthma, diabetes, ADD-ADHD and cancer has exploded over the last 10 years. Instead of suspecting the more than one hundred vaccine antigens that are injected into children before they enter kindergarten, mind-controlling drugs designed for adults have been given expanded approval for treatment of children.

Healthcare providers continue to view vaccination in the same way as described by the catchy title of Mr. Allan’s book: Medicine’s greatest lifesaver. This accolade is attributed to the reduction of childhood infectious diseases such as chickenpox, mumps and three-day measles. But can a negative truly be proven? The assumption by conventional medicine is that all children will be exposed and when exposed, all unvaccinated children will get sick. This assumption is faulty.

If a vaccinated child does not contract chickenpox, is it due to the protection of the vaccine? Or was it because the child was never exposed to the virus? What if an unvaccinated child is exposed but does not become sick? Is that a testament to the health of the child’s immune system? Not every child in a classroom exposed to influenza comes down with the flu.

Studies comparing the health of vaccinated vs. unvaccinated populations of children are greatly needed. In 2005, investigative reporter Dan Olmsted discovered that the rate of autism among the Amish communities was nearly non-existent. He later discovered another large unvaccinated group, thousands of children cared for by Homefirst Health Services in the greater metropolitan are around Chicago. According to Homefirst doctors, none of these children has autism.“The Age of Autism: A pretty big secret,” by Dan Olmsted. Dec. 7, 2005.

Examining the health histories of these children could be a telling exercise. Discovering that unvaccinated children have not contracted “vaccine-preventable diseases” would deliver a serious blow to the national vaccination program. An even more provocative study would be to examine what health problems — if any — exist among unvaccinated children.

In June, 2007, the first large scale study showing the health differences between vaccinated and unvaccinated boys was released by Generation Rescue. Interviews were successfully completed in 11,817 households and data on 17,674 children was gathered. The study concluded that vaccinated boys had a 155% greater chance of having a neurological disorder like ADHD or autism than unvaccinated boys. For less than $200,000, a small non-profit was able to complete a study that the CDC, with an $8 billion a year budget, has been unable or unwilling to do.Generation Rescue Survey.

If vaccines were safe, manufacturers would not need federal legislation to protect them from liability. If vaccines were effective, no one would question the value of their use. If vaccines were good for us, state mandates would not be necessary to enforce them. A growing number of adults are investigating vaccines and discovering their contents. Vaccines are grown on monkey kidneys, chicken embryos and contain bovine (cow) serum. Vaccines contain particles of viruses, bits of bacteria and measurable amounts of aluminum, gelatin, polysorbate 80, MSG and other chemicals. A responsible adult who concludes this combination of pathogens and chemicals can be harmful is not a “countercultural type who views life through a prism of conspiracy theory” as Oshinsky reports from Allen’s book. Understanding that autoimmune reactions can be the consequence of injecting animal cells and foreign chemicals into the body does not require a medical degree or PhD.

The health risks of vaccination are well documented but rarely discussed. Instead of calling them names, parents and physicians who challenge the spoon-fed dogma should be commended.

Personally, I’m continually amazed that ailments such as measles, mumps, rubella, whooping cough, and chickenpox are considered threatening enough to justify injecting children with the loathesome soup described by Dr. Tenpenny.

In the 1950s and beyond, these minor childhood ailments were a normal part of every childhood. They were so inconsequential that no one felt they justified so much as a visit to the doctor. Ordinary home nursing care (by mom) was sufficient.

In rare instances, some of these ailments can be dangerous. But the literature I’ve read suggests that the dangers of the vaccines are greater than the dangers of the ailments themselves.

For parents who are not vaccinating: I cured two of my daughters of chickenpox in two days by giving them Echinacea tea. One day after drinking the tea a couple of times a day, the itching stopped. After the second day, the sores dried up. If I remember right, I included chamomile and catnip in the tea, because both are mildly relaxing–and both are standard, very mild, all-purpose children’s remedies. Also, Echinacea has no particular taste, other than a slightly gritty sensation on the tongue, so it’s best to add something to give the tea a pleasant flavor.

    871 000 deaths from measles in 1999

Mainly poor people far away, but still wouldn’t it be nice if they could stay alive? Perhaps you could send some Echinachea tea?

The key to our modern day problem is to BUILD our immune systems. How do we do that in our toxic, poisoned, unsafe food supply world? Good question.

Vaccines only suppress, CONFUSE and kill our immune systems. VACCINES are the reason for the onslaught in recent years of all our new chronic diseases , auto-immune diseases, syndromes and behavioral disorders. If you study the effect of vaccines AND pharmaceuticals on the human race from a homeopathic standpoint it is a terrifying scenerio indeed.

Many of the diseases we vaccinate against today were already disappearing before the event of vaccination. Plenty of government documentation, charts and stats on that.

Children in poor countries die of simple illnesses because they are mal-nourished and living in terrible unsanitary conditions. They do not have the immunity to fight off the diseases.

65+ vaccine doses before age 15. Two hundred more in development.
Shall we inject our infants with all of those too?

How many VACCINES and PHARMACEUTICALS before the human race is gone? I’m afraid in coming years we are going to find out.

If vaccines are so great, why is America so sick.? Out of 50 industrialized countries we are number 48 for chronic illness.
(Number 1 being the least). Makes you want to scratch your head and say hmmmmm…..

YOU CANNOT FOOL MOTHER NATURE. “Let the Herbs of the fields be your medicine” author: GOD (Bible). He did not say go to the corner drugstore, get your medications and swig them down with a COKE.

    >>The key to our modern day problem is to BUILD our immune systems.

I agree – a healthy immune system is indeed a good thing. How to get one is doesn’t seem that difficult: good diet and a healthy lifestyle. The challenge is to achieve this – it always has been.

    >> Many of the diseases we vaccinate against today were already disappearing before the event of vaccination. Plenty of government documentation, charts and stats on that.

Show your sources, and I’ll believe you.

    >> Vaccines only suppress, CONFUSE and kill our immune systems. VACCINES are the reason for the onslaught in recent years of all our new chronic diseases , auto-immune diseases, syndromes and behavioral disorders.

Vaccines ALSO prevent the diseases they are aimed at preventing. Which means that you don’t get them and die. Which means that if you lead a generally unhealthy life in polluted cities and do no exercise, then you are much more likely to come down with a chronic disease.

    >> Children in poor countries die of simple illnesses because they are mal-nourished and living in terrible unsanitary conditions. They do not have the immunity to fight off the diseases.

True. And how do you propose we solve this? Would vaccines help these children? Yes, they would.

    >>If vaccines are so great, why is America so sick.? Out of 50 industrialized countries we are number 48 for chronic illness.

All industrialised countries vaccinate. Even the number 1 on your list with least chronic illness. Suggests the problem is elsewhere?

    >> YOU CANNOT FOOL MOTHER NATURE. “Let the Herbs of the fields be your medicine” author: GOD (Bible). He did not say go to the corner drugstore, get your medications and swig them down with a COKE.

Who mentioned coke? Europe in the early middle ages was a very religious place. Pretty much everyone did what God (read the established church hierarchy at the time) said. There was little or no pollution, and food was completely organic and locally grown – no “toxic, poisoned” food there – although the supply was very unreliable (it took modern farming methods to fix that one).

BUT, avarage life expectancy was less than 25, and a horrifying number of children died in infancy. The “Herbs of the fields” weren’t particularly effective. This carried on pretty much unchanged, until the advent of “western style” medicine started to relieve SOME of the suffering.

This is the key: We are human, there are too many of us and we haven’t yet properly learned to live in a way which is sustainable and healthy for our planet and everyone on it. Vaccines are one of the tools we have developed to try and relieve some of the suffering. They are not perfect by any means, and if we can find a better way we should, and will, make it happen. But so far we haven’t.

Sharon can safely leave her children unvaccinated only because so many others HAVE been vaccinated.

Andrew and others don’t get it – the CDC’s own statistics show that measles had virtually died out (down over 90% in the previous 100 years) in the US before the vaccine was introduced. Why is that you may wonder? The answer is simple – sanitation (no more sewage in the streets), clean drinking water, improved hygeine, and that wonder of all wonders, access to fresh food on a more regular basis. Yes thousands around the world die from measles each year but they die not because they have not been vaccinated but because they are forced to live in squalor. The answer is easy, give them clean drinking water, a proper sewage system and some food and the most amazing thing will happen, their bodies will heal. And it will be a lot cheaper than giving them all expensive vaccines. Just ask India where they have given children the polio vaccine 10 to 12 times and children are still contracting the disease – because they are starving and drinking dirty water.
