friendship

(dedicated to all who know the value of friendship, especially later in life)

there is a card on my nightstand
it tells of wise travelers and their quest

the salutation is dear
the valediction is loving

a new friendship in the seventh decade
is rare and precious

an expiration date is certain
the best by date depends on the ambient temperature of the connection

wise people have experiences and skills
that help them navigate the rivers and valleys of life

friendship found within the wisdom that comes with time
is rare, precious, and beautiful
