Vets
by Wayne F. Burke / September 18th, 2022
My great-Uncle Henry
fought in World War One
and was wounded at Verdun.
My father joined the Marines
at age 18 and single-handedly
won the battle of Okinawa.
My Uncles served as well, but
me, not even
a Boy Scout, and
the draft ended in ’73
while I was at University
so never did I serve
my country–crazy land of
liberty.
