Thoughts Inspired by the Moon

(For Ashlee and Jill)

The moon greeted me this morning
Its reflected light inspired
Thoughts about stories, poetry, and pageantry
The beauty found in nature
The systems created for survival

Moonlight shines on all
The creatures of the earth

In time
More is known
About all that is upon and
Beyond the earth
The sun
The planets
The stars
The galaxies
Rock formations
Bodies of water
Flora and fauna
Humankind

As time passes
Thoughts about all that is
Changes

Steps are taken along a path
Obstacles encountered
Steps are taken along new paths
Obstacles encountered
Downward spirals
Upward spirals
Mostly both
Perseverance leads to enlightenment
Enlightenment is neither a miracle nor mystical
Enlightenment is empirical
The measure of who we are as we journey
On our paths beneath the sun and the moon
