A soul can fit you nicely
Like a finely tailored suit
Or
It can ride-up like old underwear
Causing you to pull and tug
And hope you will not be noticed
A soul can fit you comfortably
Like a well-worn pair of jeans
Causing your conscience to gleam
Like a new pair of off-white Converse
Just removed from the box and tightly laced
A soul can be tossed aside
Recycled
Given to charity
Lost
Or
It can ease itself
Into a loved one’s dreams and create a longing for more than can be seen
Author’s Note: It should be noted that as of 0900 EST on April 15, 2021 there still is no empirical evidence for the existence of souls. This writer is grateful for the existence of poetic license.
