Two-Way Street, Dead-End Alley
by Scott Thomas Outlar / October 6th, 2019
I do pray
to God
for peace, love,
and all that
which is good
but I have learned
to also demand
of God
to cease with
all the rest.
I’ll hold you
to the same standards
you expect of me
and I don’t
want to hear
one word
about how
life ain’t fair.
You should have
thought about that
before speaking
to begin with;
but don’t worry, babe,
we’ll carry that cross
with great joy
and bury all the curses
that slipped
from your tongue
during moments
of confusion;
yeah, don’t worry, babe,
it happens to the best of them.
