Dimensions

No matter how far
outside the lines
of life
we tend to stray
there are still
certain spaces
we can escape to
that keep us safe

Like the shape
of this sidewalk
where I stroll
as a thousand cars
speed past
my star-struck soul

The sun is more beautiful
today by far
than any other moment
I’ve realized before

Counting blessings
in triple doses
with each breath
to make sure
the medicine goes down
without a gasp

Biting my tongue
in the fire
lest I say too much
becomes a bore
when the puddle
fills up with blood

So I start screaming
from burning lungs
to change the pace
and pray the sound
comes as a song
of saving grace
