Mid-Term Blues

Why is it every government,
Endures a Mid-Term Blues?
Can it be just coincidence,
An Opposition ruse?
Perhaps it’s simply providence,
Like Dylan’s ‘Twist of Fate’;
Or maybe the electorate,
Have ceased to take the bait?

Do politicians contemplate,
Or really wonder why;
That halfway through their ruling term,
Things always go awry?
Some leaders really do believe
That they are specially sent;
By God above to rule and that,
This is their natural bent.

But lesser egos in the House,
Must surely know the score;
The power that they think they have,
Is rather less than more.
All governments make promises,
They simply cannot keep;
But like to think they’re still the rams,
And we are merely sheep!
