Gaza on My Mind

Death and shambled dreams
Life and recurring nightmares
Stench of the victims
Fragrance of killers
Suited and armored to feast

Dense but thinly veiled
Transparent but flowing like cream
Medicine fashioned from steel
Surgeons with dirty tools
Incisions made at the jugular

Homes with buried roofs
Children with broken toys
Mothers with husbands jailed
Lovers separated at birth
Followers with no one to lead

Nation with flag
Flag without nation
Waiting in line
Naked but wearing a coat
Turned back without an explanation

Terror sips from a carafe
Garrisons gather with no one to fight
Lungs labor to breathe
Enemies say they can be trusted
Friends are gathered on Facebook

Kin was once rock
But now is mere rubble
Stones are gathered
Thrown by the arms of skinny children
On dirty streets littered with tanks

Once asked to be chosen
Only to be denied
Rip my skin with a bullet
Release the pin that secures this mortal coil
If Hell is a place for love to die

Father is dead
Mother just sits
Brother has disappeared
Sister has found another way
I am left alone

Death and shambled dreams
Life and recurring nightmares
Stench of the victims
Fragrance of killers
Suited and armored to feast
