Still Kicking
by Luis Cuauhtémoc Berriozabal / August 25th, 2024
Sitting in a wheelchair
with downcast eyes
at 52 years old
I crack the knuckles
on each hand.
My heart is racing.
Will sweet life
be only a memory?
Will my joy
be stripped under
the knife?
Six years later
I am here.
Still kicking.
Fuck cancer.
Thanks to the doctors,
nurses, and hope.
