December Dandelion

Amid meteorological winter grays
Molecules stimulate the olfactory senses triggering
Thoughts of spring
Springlike sweet scented air
Arrives to overtake the harsh coolness

In the moment
Stacked firewood
Seems out of place
I take a deep breath
The end of autumn marks winter’s arrival

Evergreens
Sparkle in the distance
Ancestors kept theirs inside
throughout the winter
As a symbol of hope for the spring

For me
Hope for the spring
Has been restored
By a single
December dandelion
