Another

Another state execution,
another slate of dead-eyed witnesses,
another sweaty chaplain,
another protesting crowd outside
dragging their placards
out of mothballs,
another TV talking head
with three sides to his mouth,
another voice on a talk show
screaming “fry the pig”,
another mother weeping
back and forth
between sorrow and guilt,
another mother’s vengeance
sputtering down to
silent misery,
another another…
it’s Texas…
being another is punishable
by death.
