Hunger

(for those facing hunger in the U.S. and famine in Gaza and worldwide)

These vampires drool an endless hunger
for conquest, riches, profits─
blood of the people,
blood of the planet.

They rape the earth, despoil, plunder
the mountains, oceans, deserts,
plains, savannahs, tundra,
the land and what’s beneath it.

Their lust leads to untold suffering
for humans and all species:
famine, starvation, unnecessary death
amidst earth’s stolen plenty.

We must not let them plunder
our humanity, must not become
zombies like them. Remember
who we are: furious but tender.

May decent people here and worldwide
rise in unprecedent bravery and numbers
to force the vampires to scatter and hide
as their blood-soaked rule goes under.
