He’s Getting Tired of Hungry People

He had just dozed off during his press conference
When the head of Marie Antoinette floated by.
Mon Dieu, Monsieur le Président, you seem upset.
You’ve got that right, lady. People just don’t understand
The world respects our country thanks to all I’ve done.
We have the greatest economy right now,
But all I hear is that people are hungry.
They want me to fix affordability,
Whatever that is, but prices are already down.
They can’t seem to say it enough: People are hungry.
I’m getting tired of it. Billionaires need to eat.
They eat money and their appetites keep growing.
Funds for the poor are needed to feed the rich.

I’d say, Monsieur, something about eating cake
But I don’t want you unattached from your head.
Les gens when out of sorts can act regrettably.
Thanks for the advice, hon, but I’d better wake up.
I’ve got enemies to prosecute and drug boats to bomb.
Hey, did you hear big pharma will reduce prices
On their weight-loss drugs. A slender America
Will soon march forth from the fat farm of the free.
The poor must eat less—no food, no insurance
Will trim waist lines. Starvation has benefits.
I cut those woke programs for their own damn good.
The working poor must starve so the insatiable rich
Can enjoy not a golden but a gilded age.
