Democracy without Party

Gerrymandering goes against the grain
But the shadows fall both ways
The offending party leaves a stain
Our republic is in play

The filibuster is an abomination
That democracy can’t abide
An offense to equal representation
It applies to either side

The sovereign states against the nation
Is a threat to national unity
When we at last come to our summation
We belong to one community

We are faithful to democracy
In all times good and bad
We oppose all things autocracy
Voter fraud and hanging chads

We uphold the right to vote
The right to speak our solemn truth
We know the tide will lift all boats
The right to privacy in the booth

Democracy has no party
It belongs to one and all
If the nation was just starting
We would break down all the walls
