Visiting Home

I step off the train
and begin walking through the old neighborhood

the streets are empty
I count sixteen blocks with no light
and the noise also fades
from the business side of the tracks

the city was always twin governed
by hunger and insidious peril
but now
it is a burial vault

luckily
the wise edicts of the Supreme Council guide my way
