To the Military Personnel Occupying Our Country

When history does a roll call of names,
which list do you want your name on?

Will you be memorialized as one
who swore an oath to a petty tyrant,
bent on revenge and retribution
against anyone who dares to oppose him,
desperate for a throne and a crown,
for his subjects to fall at his feet
and worship him like a god,
who tramples on the rule of law
at his every whim,
and dismantles democracy?

Will your defense be
“I was only following orders,”
to the unlawful and indefensible?

Or will you be honored as one
who defended the Constitution
“from all enemies,
both foreign and domestic?”
Will you protect the People,
despite color, nationality, ethnicity, religion,
sexuality, and gender?
Will you protect “the huddled masses”?
Will you “bear true faith and allegiance
to the Constitution,”
or will you, in feigned ignorance,
follow a tyrant down the path
to tyranny and villainy?

America,
our Lady of Liberty,
she asks you to consider,
where is the line
you will not cross?
What burdens will be
too heavy for you to bear?

Will your legacy be one of
tyranny, terror, and war crimes,
or will you protect
The Land of the Free,
will you protect
the inalienable rights (of all the People)
to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness?

Will you be brave?

Soon, you may be forced
to choose whose side
you’re fighting on.

Will your descendants proudly proclaim
your service to America,
or will they hang their head in shame
because you served a tyrant
to bring a proud nation and her free people
to their knees?

What will your legacy be?

America,
our “Mother of Exiles,”
is calling you.
Can you hear her?
She asks you,
“Protect my People.
Please stand down.”
