A Night in Tunisia
by Marco Katz Montiel / September 21st, 2025
Clearly, the world will not ignore
The Viking’s child whom you believe
Above and beyond a Moor.
Clearly, when it comes down to quotes,
The Viking’s child can deceive,
And still know nothing of boats.
Clearly, there’s no emphasis
On what Coast Guardsmen retrieve
With not a shred of prejudice.
Clearly, you believe a lady so fine
Far more than what Africans perceive.
The world sees it in your headline:
Flotilla attacked! you hype,
Buying into what liars weave,
Before going on in such small type:
“The first explosion came from inside,”
“Tunisian Authorities” undeceive,
But you’re still not sure which one lied?
Marco Katz Montiel composes poetry and prose in Spanish, English, and musical notes. He went to college late, and then alienated one university by publishing about bigotry on campus and got kicked to the curb by two others for his union activities. Still, Marco managed to graduate and even publish a book on music and literature with Palgrave. His essays, poems, and stories appear in
Ploughshares,
Jerry Jazz Music,
English Studies in Latin America,
Copihue Poetry,
Camino Real,
WestWard Quarterly,
Lowestoft Chronicle,
Dissident Voice, and in the anthologies
Cartas de desamor y otras adicciones,
There’s No Place, and the
Capital City Press Anthology.
