Woe is me
and woe is my nation
for its government
wishes to ice out
California’s warmth—to
freeze a culture of zeal
that built this altar,
the altar you
sacrifice them on
Woe is this nation of brothers
selling Joseph to Egypt,
their father tears his clothes
in grief and the flock mourns
his absence, I pray
the betrayal exalts him
and when his brothers weep
in shame, I pray he will
save them from famine
