The Sound of Shatter

There is a duty
to your family
and your friends
and God
and the world

and you better believe
there is an obligation
and responsibility
to live up to the effort
your younger self
put into the process

and you better damn well
learn to reignite that fire
burning as steady illumination

or it’s all a wash
in another flood

What’s the point
if you’re not improving
and growing
and maturing
and ripening
upon the vine of life?

Drifting along
has got to fade off

Once upon a time
there was a sixth revelation
and on the seventh cacophony
stuck pigs rejoiced

Say something meaningful
before oxygen expires

It’s all love
and light
and loosening tongues
spitballing in autumn

frozen by the creek
while sacred water creeps
