I don’t know what it is, about the races that is.
I seldom think about them. But when I do:
Psychologically, black cars can intimidate, but
Bright colors are easier to see and to avoid.
It seems unfair that the faster qualifiers get the best
Starting positions. There is no handicapping of the field.
When in starting postion it is best not to idle your engine.
Be revving the engine, ready to go when the flag drops.
Never again be a slave to fuel economy. Challenge the pace
Set by the competition; be ready to jockey for advantage.
Challenge the red line on the tachometer, press the pedal
To the metal. Test your nerve and your vehicle’s tolerance.
Always be aware those ahead of you will not just let you pass;
They do not want you to get ahead of them. Know this.
Test your brakes, because without brakes it will be difficult
To have success when everyone else’s brakes are working.
Remember that, while working your way toward the inside
Of the track, the competition will fiercely resist your efforts.
Always be on the lookout for warning flags to avoid danger
Ahead. Crashes happen, strewing impediments in your path.
Remember, the winners of a race are not necessarily the fastest,
But will be those who have endured past that checkered flag.
