Hyena Symphony of Discordance
by Scott Thomas Outlar / August 11th, 2024
I’m working on a poem
about natural laws
assigned by God
granted in blessing
bestowed with grace
the power of the word
freedom of speech
personal expression by tongue
cluck your little heart out, baby
about the principle
of non-aggression
and the absolute necessity
of self-defense
mellow, smiling, happy-go-lucky
with a preternatural instinct to
survive
tyranny
and all its empty vessels
here on earth
vacuous and hollow
given over
to the bloodthirst
of collective power
and the cackling hysteria
of a sugar high
pipe dream
shallow as
the suits that shield
vacant thrones
