Rafah Exodus

… Schlomo Sand suggests that the Palestinians are the people we call ‘the Jews’ in the Bible… Some converted to Christianity in the 4th century, while the majority embraced Islam during the 7th century Arab conquest. [par.] … Yitzhak Ben Zvi, later president of Israel, and David Ben Gurion, its first prime minister, accepted it as late as 1929, the year of the great Palestinian revolt.
Israeli Historian: “Palestinians Are Biological Descendants of Bible’s Jews”, Mondoweiss, Philip Weiss, September 2, 2008, quoting Schlomo Sand, “Israel deliberately forgets its history,” Le Monde diplomatique, September 2008

We watch the Exodus on our phones
Leaving Rafah, their last corner of Gaza
Packing what little they have left
After fleeing from the North
Once twice three times
Without even flour nor time
To bake unleavened bread

Pharoah’s army comes
Not on horseback nor in chariots
But in planes drones mortars
Incendiary bombs making
Pillar after pillar of smoke

Not ten but a thousand plagues
This time fall
Not on Pharoah and the Egyptians
But on Palestine

No stones in a river will let them cross safely
No flood will drown their enemies

But the Angels of Resistance have come
Lest the people be driven far into the desert
They battle enemies a thousand times more powerful
And they know the God of Ibrahim
Has not yet shown His hand
