Gun Crazy

What a country!
Mass shootings murder our children,
but we don’t stop kids from getting guns.
Massacres in nightclubs and stores
are quickly forgotten
when a new shooting occurs.
It’s more important
the NRA asserts,
to protect constitutional rights
than to ban the insane,
than to ban criminals
from acquiring assault rifles
to use in public places
on innocent citizens,
since the second amendment
doesn’t discriminate
against who should bear arms.

Gary Beck has spent most of his adult life as a theater director and worked as an art dealer when he couldn't earn a living in the theater. He has also been a tennis pro, a ditch digger and a salvage diver. His original plays and translations of Moliere, Aristophanes and Sophocles have been produced Off Broadway.
