Memorial Day

(Remembering JM, RP, LC, TS, and others)

Remembering the dead
Whose death was caused by war
Should connect us to current events
As it has never connected us before
It should draw us closer to histories atrocities
“Lest we forget”

Shadows of the past
Still linger today
Civilians
Women
Children
Men
Soldiers
Women
Children
Men
Fall to their deaths
To fulfill

The dreams of tyrants

The command of an imagined voice
Softly whispered
Violently obeyed

The wants of those politically powered
Who will preach and praise and honor those they have pushed
To premature burials

They have nothing to fear

Unless we stand united
Unless we remember
