Lockstep
by Scott Thomas Outlar / January 31st, 2021
I waited all my life
pretty darling
for the black boots
to arrive
so don’t color me surprised
when the fascists
start quacking
just as was promised
They don’t hide their sympathies
for censorship
nor fret
over the appearance
of show trials
staged
as political theater
they’re highbrow
don’t ya know
and they’ll use bullets
to prove
their finer points
they’re cut
from consensus cloth
ain’t ya heard
they only shop
amongst the cult
look at all the duckies marching
proudly stomping toward the slaughter
