Can’t Tip Your Way to the Top
by Scott Thomas Outlar / January 10th, 2021
What will be asked
and gauged
at the gates
when you beg entry?
“What courage
did you display
in the previous incarnation?”
will be right up there
at the top of the list
from the lips
of an angel
to the scale
with your feathers
as the scroll unrolls
curtain to curtain
and kindness will be
judged with all the rest
but no one
who never
fought a
righteous war
will have
the guts
to get into
heaven
and there’s no greasing
palms
in that club
