Fashion Hymns

Torn shoes and well-worn shirts
are more my style

but I’ll put on a suit
if we’re dressing up for war

or to pay our respects
to a love most pure

I’ve watched you
button tight
righteousness
close to vest
along the neck
tickling throat

and I’ve
had it
up to here
with the act
of innocence
that leaves us choking
