bleeding hearts

the bleeding heart has bloomed
planted as a reminder of our honeymoon at jean’s cottage
near lake edinboro

the bleeding heart has bloomed
amid a worldwide pandemic
a simple plant can inspire hope

the bleeding heart has bloomed
thoughts of community and individual efforts to help
ease themselves into my mind as I gather twigs and branches that fell recently due to heavy winds

the bleeding heart has bloomed
amid fears and increasing levels of uncertainty
a simple gesture can inspire hope

the bleeding heart blooms
as individuals and communities
see the need and respond
“for it is in giving that we receive…”
