Atavism

graves turn with every flower
barbed wire and prayer
the war is on, the war is on
pavements and houses
buses, bushes
offices, secretariats
third block and fourth block
real estate, fourth estate
the war is on in crescent moon
sun upwards, heaven downwards
fight with bowstrings
arrows, stones and pebbles
ammunitions replenished
nuclear demolished.
Ananya S Guha lives in Shillong in North East India, where he was born and brought up. He has been writing and publishing his poetry for the last forty years.
