Have the Floods Abated?

A nation’s hiatus
now the rains in Chennai
burning rains, Noah’s Ark
tears could not abate these
rains. The city became an outcaste.
Weep friends weep.
Weep for the rains, flood them with
your tears. Chennai is now silent
now sulking, now angry.
Only the blare of news is staring
her in the face. Pale, wan, emaciated
tears are ceaseless.
Have the floods abated?
Who causes them?
Man or God, or Wrath?
Have the floods abated as a city
goes to sleep again?
