Do You Care If Your Views Are True?

Author’s Note:  In our consumerist society, people cling to their own views as if they were private property and take it personally if anyone challenges them.

Do you care if your views are true?
If your ideas are wrong or right?
Or are they ‘objects’ owned by you,
That you’ll not cede without a fight?

Are your ideas, yours by free choice,
Or just dregs from the gutter press?
Opinions in your own, true voice,
Or from the tabloids more or less?

Have you sat down and ever thought,
To ask yourself if they make sense;
Or do you just assume you ought,
To bristle up in their defence?

Just ask who is it you’ll deceive,
If you cling to a foolish view;
If all those things that you believe,
To put it bluntly, just aren’t true?
