Gold and Diamonds

we hunt shiny
things in the dark;
sacrifice flesh
and blood,
tear innocence
from the veil
and burn
a road named
history to
rank ash.
for the sparkle
of trinkets
we bury the
precious
beneath
monuments
to our mistakes.
and still it turns,
this wheel
of treasure
to which we
are pinned,
forever blind
in all this light.
