Obama Administration Statements on Iran Nukes Not Backed by Intelligence

A recent unclassified CIA report to Congress says that it is not known whether Iran is working towards developing a nuclear weapon, despite consistent rhetoric from the Obama administration that Iran is pursuing the bomb.

The report was drafted by the CIA’s Weapons Intelligence, Nonproliferation, and Arms Control Center (WINPAC) and submitted to the Congress by the Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Analysis.

It discusses the acquisition of technology related to weapons of mass destruction (WMD) for the year 2008 and repeats the assessment of a 2007 National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) that Iran “had been working to develop nuclear weapons through at least fall 2003, but that in fall 2003 Iran halted its nuclear weapons design and weaponization activities, and its covert uranium conversion- and enrichment-related activities.”

“We do not know whether Iran currently intends to develop nuclear weapons,” the report states, a tacit acknowledgement that there is little or no evidence that Iran today is pursuing a weapons capability.

Iran “is keeping open the option to develop nuclear weapons by continuing to develop a range of technical capabilities that could be applied to producing nuclear weapons,” the report adds, “if a decision is made to do so.”

The evidence that Iran had previously pursued a weapon capability apparently comes from information retrieved from a laptop computer, referred to in reports of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as the “alleged studies”.

The laptop, obtained by U.S. intelligence, allegedly came from an Iranian engineer. The U.S. claims that the information obtained from the computer is evidence that Iran had previously been involved in weapon research and development.

The U.S. has only shared a select number of the documents with the IAEA. Iran maintains that the documents are forgeries.

During the buildup to the war on Iraq, the U.S. government claimed that documents showed that Saddam Hussein had attempted to obtain uranium in order to make a nuclear bomb, but the documents proved to have been fabricated.

In that case, the U.S. was reluctant to hand over the documents to the IAEA, but once the agency finally obtained them after repeated requests, it immediately recognized them as fakes.

In the case of Iran, the IAEA has so far declined to take a position on whether the documents are authentic or not, but is taking the matter seriously. The “alleged studies” remain the principle outstanding issue preventing the IAEA from being able to conclude with reasonable confidence that Iran’s nuclear program is not intended for any military purpose.

A staff report to the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations earlier this month similarly framed Iran’s nuclear program as a potential threat, but at the same time acknowledged that “There is no sign that Iran’s leaders have ordered up a bomb.”

The report also noted that the Director General of the IAEA, Mohammed El Baradei, has “resisted pressure from the United States” to “declare Iran in violation of the NPT [nuclear non-proliferation treaty] because, he said repeatedly, the IAEA had no proof of a military program.”

It also claimed that “Publicly available U.S. intelligence reports and published reports show that Iran had been running a military nuclear program” until 2003. But the 2007 NIE and other publicly available information do not show this as a certainty. The 2007 offers its assessment that this was the case, but it’s unclear what actual evidence the intelligence community had upon which it based this assessment.

Prior to the invasion of Iraq, the intelligence community had repeatedly issued reports assessing that the country possessed WMD, but was never able to offer any credible evidence to support that claim. The CIA later admitted that Iraq’s WMD programs had been dismantled by the U.N. and all declared proscribed materials destroyed, and that Iraq unilaterally destroyed its remaining stocks of undeclared WMD in 1991.

Both the CIA and Foreign Relations Committee reports were obtained by Steven Aftergood of the Federation of American Scientists and posted on his blog, Secrecy News.

President Barack Obama and other members of his administration, contrary to the acknowledgment that there is no evidence Iran today has a nuclear weapons program, have repeatedly made statements suggesting that Iran is actively pursuing the bomb and has based its policy on that assumption.

“Iran’s development of a nuclear weapon I believe is unacceptable. We have to mount an international effort to prevent that from happening,” Obama said in his first press conference as the president-elect.

At a speech in Prague, Czech Republic, in April, Obama said, “So let me be clear: Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile activity poses a real threat, not just to the United States, but to Iran’s neighbors and our allies.”

Vice President Joe Biden gave a speech in Munich, Germany, in which he said that Iran’s “illicit nuclear program” was “not conducive to peace”, and in a speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) earlier this month, he said that the possibility of a “nuclear armed Iran” was “an existential threat.”

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said last month, “We know the imperative of preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons” and characterized its nuclear program as “the threat posed by Iran”.

In an interview with ABC News on March 3, Clinton said, “Iran’s pursuit of the nuclear weapon is deeply troubling to not only the U.S. but many people throughout the world.”

Let me ask you, Jeremy. Do you read the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty to limit nuclear weapons development by non-nuclear signatories totally, or only if and so long as nuclear signatories make significant efforts to reduce their stockpiles? And if you read it as the latter, like I do, and if Iran IS developing nuclear weapons, isn’t that simply exercising their understandable and indisputable right of self-defense?

  2. Mulga Mumblebrain said on May 14th, 2009 at 5:07pm #

I agree with Lloyd. The US, as ever, has refused to act in accordance with solemn treaty obligations, but when did they ever do so? The Obama regime’s resolute refusal to prosecute anyone involved in the latest eruption of American psychopathic sadism, the mass torture, often, apparently, to death, ‘rendition’ and disappearances of God knows how many into an horrific archipelago of secret prisons and torture centres, during the current phase of the decades long ‘War of Terror’ against the world, is another stark example. Behind all this pathological lying, clearly designed to instil hatred for Iran into the US public preparatory to Iran being ‘shocked and awed’ and a couple of million of its untermenschen obliterated, are the Zionists. Just as the drive to destroy Iraq and obliterate its society and culture were hatched by the extreme Right of Israeli politics and their allies and stooges, so too with the ‘hate Iran’ campaign. One wonders whether the long anticipated Israeli sneak attack is nigh, so intense, and, typically, hysterical, has grown the torrent of abuse directed by Rightwing Jews and their flunkies at Iran recently. Another dead giveaway is the growing wailing against ‘anti-Semitism’, which as ever is merely a mendacious euphemism for any criticism of Israel. The arrogance of the Judeofascists remains their weakest point, their Achilles heel. They really seem convinced that they can destroy any opposition by simply relying on that vilification and slur to intimidate and silence, but I feel that they are over-reaching. The world saw just how savage and sadistic Israel has become in Gaza. Although the Jewish dominated Western media has dropped all mention of the ongoing blockade or the suffering of the Gazans, more and more people are getting the truth. These are not people who hate Jews, but they refuse to join Israel in hating the Gazans and refuse to turn a blind-eye to Israeli crimes simply because they are committed by Jews. I think an Israeli attack on Iran would be worse than a crime-it would be the gravest mistake in Israeli history. It would lead to absolutely incalculable repercussions, not necessarily to the Judeofascists’ interests. The question must be, does Israel, or should I say Israel’s power elite, really envisage a peaceful future, or do they in fact see themselves as the regional bully-boy and hegemon, ruling over millions of goyish untermenschen forever, in pursuit of some deranged Messianic purpose?

There’s no room for debate on this one. The NPT is explicit on nuclear weapons programs for signatories being absolutely forbidden. The exception is for the 5 permanent members of the UNSC.

The failure of one state to abide by its treaty obligations doesn’t mean it’s okay for another state to violate its treaty obligations.

We might not like any of this, but to say the NPT allows signatories to develop nuclear weapons as a right to self-defense is simply an incorrect reading of the treaty.

  4. Lloyd said on May 14th, 2009 at 8:14pm #

Or restated, Jeremy. Your position is: whether or not the US has made good faith efforts to reduce its nuclear stockpile is irrelevant to the obligation of all signatories, except for the five permanent members of the UN (one of which is the US), to not develop nuclear weapons.

A historical question, then: what in the world did the non-permanent member signatory nations stand to gain by signing the NPT? I can imagine you might answer: they thought they would be safer from other non-permanent members’ developing nuclear weapons. But this raises two objections: (1) Weren’t they supposed to believe that permanent member signatory nations would protect them from this, much as you say the U.S. is now proposing to protect Israel from Iran? And (2) Were the non-permanent member nations so naive as to believe that nations such as Pakistan, India, and Israel would not develop nuclear weapons?

  5. Jeremy R. Hammond said on May 14th, 2009 at 9:35pm #

Lloyd, I did not say the U.S.’s obligations under the NPT are irrelevant, that is not my position, and it does not follow from what I said.

But as to your questions, the motivation for states to sign the NPT is to gain access to nuclear technology and materials. That is the whole point: allow international oversight to guarantee your nuclear program’s peaceful nature, and we’ll help you with the technology so you can develop nuclear energy. That’s the whole deal.

According to IEAE Iran has not violated NPT agreement and has a right to enrich Uranium for her fuel. What else do these criminals want? Do they want to know about the Iranian government’s intention? The government has repeatedly said that is not seeking nuclear weapon. Everyone knows that all these pressure and illegal sanction on Iran is nothing to do with NPT and everything to do with politics.
The politics part of it is more to do with the racist and terrorist Zionist state of Israel than the United States. Israel wants to keep its nuclear leverage to be able to project power in the region and establishes its project of “the greater Israel” going from Mauritania to Afghanistan.
Iran is part of NPT and has every single right to enrich uranium for its fuel. What is this double standard? Why does Iran should give up her right to enrichment? There is no single piece of solid evidence which would show that Iran has been engaged in proliferation of nuclear weapons, the US under the pressure of Israel still continues to threaten Iran, which is in violation of Chapter VII of the UN Charter and Iran almost daily is threaten by Israel, who has refused to sign the NPT and continue her war criminal activities and has a role in every single war and conflict around the globe yet DARES to threaten Iran with military attack daily and no ‘International Law’ can protect Iran from these illegal activities.
Iran’s Natanz enrichment facility is an IAEA safeguarded facility that is being monitored by cameras, sensors, and short notice visits of IAEA inspectors that are residing in Iran. Any deviation towards weapon grade enrichment levels meaning going from 5% to 90% pure uranium will be reported Within hours of such a violation of the safeguard agreement, the UN Security Council would be in a position to call for a special security session and pass a resolution to condemn the act and even take much harsher decision including military action. Thus, all these EXTRA PROTECTION AND INTRUSION which is not applied to other states with enrichment program such as Japan, Brazil and South Korea where have reached weapon grade uranium enrichment yet they want Iran to stop her 5% enrichment activity because Israel does not want Iran exercise her right under NPT. What kind of a world is this?
Do you want to live under the Zionist umbrella? NO ONE DOES.

Dr. Kaveh Afrasiabi has sent a letter to IAEA to clarify number of issues regarding Iran nuclear energy program to expose the Zionist media lies and Ms. Fleming has sent a letter to emphasize that:

    • No nuclear material could have been removed from the facility without the Agency’s knowledge since the facility is subject to video surveillance and the nuclear material has been kept under seal;
    • The Agency has no reason at all to believe that the estimates of the low enriched uranium produced in the facility were an intentional error by Iran – they are inherent in the early commissioning phases of such a facility when it is not known in advance how it will perform in practice;
    • Iran has provided good cooperation on this matter and will be working to improve its future estimates.”
Despite the IAEA’s candid reaction to the erroneous media spin on its latest report, the question of fair play and the need for the agency to stop playing politics with the Iran file continue to loom large. Albright’s exaggerated response, as well as the distorted spins seen in the New York Times, raises serious questions about the ability of the Obama administration to pull off anything meaningful from its diplomatic track with Iran, especially considering the constant bombarded of such Iran-phobic feedback.
If this does not satisfy Israel then perhaps nothing is going to give Israel what she wants except that Israel must accept A MIDDLE EAST WITHOUT NUCLEAR WEAPONS. The US also must accept A WORLD WITHOUT NUCLEAR WEAPONS, not limited to a cheap talk because people are fed up with arrogant people in western capitals who DARE to reserve the right to have WMD for themselves but going after others who want to exercise their rights under the international law. What kind of a world is this? I am not surprised to see so many people want the demise of the established system.
I do not understand why do you repeat the lies of the US government regarding the laptop. Anyone can fabricate such a nonsense, however, it is important that you do not repeat these rubbish rather expose them.
US and Israel are famous for making forgeries and launching propaganda campaign to deceive ignorant people, like what they did with Iraq. However, I am surprised to see you repeating the same lies to confuse the people at this site.
Since 9/11 many people have accused the government (Neocons) of not telling them the truth and they have presented much evidence to support their claims. The US government who created Bin Laden charged him with the crime and pretends that is looking for him. On the other hand, the late Benazir Bhutto and her husband, Zardari, in beside Musharraf have publicly claimed that Osama was killed in 2002. Obama still is deceiving the public by repeating Bush, McCain and other US war criminals’ rubbish that he will arrest Osama and brings him to justices.

In today Haaretz Reuven Pedatzur comments a detailed work of two specialists about the possibilities that Israel has to bomb the Iranian nuclear sites and how much these possibilities could success. However, suddenly, the “threat for entire world, for US,for Iran’s neighbors, for Europe, and for the destruction of Israel ,the new Nazi regime which aspire to remakes the old Caliphate becomes something with real dimensions:So what should Israeli policy makers conclude from this American study? That an IAF strike on Iran would be complicated and problematic, and that the chance of it succeeding is not great. That they must weigh all of the far-reaching ramifications that an Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear facilities would have, and that they must not be fooled by promises, should any be made, by Israel Defense Forces officers who present the attack plan as having good odds for success.

One of the conclusions from Toukan and Cordesman’s study is that it is questionable whether Israel has the military capability to destroy Iran’s nuclear program, or even to delay it for several years. Therefore, if the diplomatic contacts the Obama administration is initiating with Iran prove useless, and if in the wake of their expected failure the American president does not decide to attack Iran, it is likely that Iran will possess nuclear weapons in a relatively short time. It seems, therefore, that policy makers in Jerusalem should begin preparing, mentally and operationally, for a situation in which Iran is a nuclear power with a strike capability against Israel.

This is the place to emphasize Israel’s mistake in hyping the Iranian threat. The regime in Tehran is certainly a bitter and inflexible rival, but from there it’s a long way to presenting it as a truly existential threat to Israel. Iran’s involvement in terror in our region is troubling, but a distinction must be made between a willingness to bankroll terrorists, and an intention to launch nuclear missiles against Israel. Even if Iran gets nuclear weapons, Israel’s power of deterrence will suffice to dissuade any Iranian ruler from even contemplating launching nuclear weapons against it.

It is time to stop waving around the scarecrow of an existential threat and refrain from making belligerent statements, which sometimes create a dangerous dynamic of escalation. And if the statements are superfluous and harmful – then this is doubly true for a strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities

Shabnam,as you would know from perusing Zionist propaganda, the Israeli ruling elite and its stooges in the US and other Western countries are possessed of a visceral hatred for Islam. Where Islamic countries are run by compliant and despotic stooges, this hatred is manifested by racist contempt and condescension. But where the state in question refuses to bow down and admit their inferiority before the magnificent edifice of Western Civilization, and its supreme expression, the Holy State and its ‘Chosen People’ (take your pick whether that refers to the US or Israel), that state is targeted for destruction. There has never been more calculated, cold-blooded plotting for aggression and mass murder since the time of the Nazis. I have no time for the theocrats of the Iranian regime, but I view the preparations for mass murder of innocent Iranians, and the tidal wave of hatemongering, lying and hysterical invective being mobilised by the Zionists and their toadies as pathological and they fill me with revulsion.
A litmus test for Israel’s real intentions lies close ahead. The suggestion that the Israelis will be offered a comprehensive peace treaty with the entire 57 countries of the Islamic world, reliant on their total withdrawal from the Occupied Territories will, I predict, be rejected by Israel. However, I live in hope that I am wrong, because this rejection will signal that an era of even greater violence and savagery lies ahead, which can only end in Israel’s destruction.

At the end of the Papal visit, the truth finally came out from Netanyahu.

‘Israel’s right-wing new Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, says he has asked Pope Benedict to condemn Iranian threats to destroy his country’
‘He was also quoted by press as saying Israel did not want a Palestinian state which might jeopardise its security.’
Avigdor Lieberman has been in the UK meeting the Foreign Secretary, Miliband, and the shadow William Hague, a member of the Conservative Friends of Israel lobby incidentally. I wonder what was being hatched up in those meetings.

I read on Uruknet this morning that the CIA boss Leon Panetta has been over to Israel. ‘Don’t do anything until we tell you it’s OK’.

right to self defence and thus right to bear arms is an universal right.
what can be deduced with certainty is that world plutos, who are united now like never before, know this.

but since about 97% of plutos’ serfs are quiet about or approbate violation of this basic human right, plutos are on their way to obtain the planet.

but even if serfs objected to the robbery of entire planet, they wld go on massacring anyone who wld stand in the way, anyhow.

actually, i suggest, islam is as useful to plutos as any cult is now or had been millennia ago.

all cults [commonly called religions] i know of side with sybaritic class of life.

Jeremy R. Hammond is a capitalist, and far-right winger Republican Party voter. In the world of capitalist Republican Party voters. USA can have 10,000 nuclear atomic bombs, while Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, Russia and most humanist governments and countries cannot. That’s like the gun control fascist laws. In the world of pro-gun-control, the police, CIA, and fascists, drug-smugglers, and real criminals can have state of art weaponry. But the average citizens can’t.
Jeremy: Quit your hypocrite stance. As long as USA and Israel have lots of nuclear weapons, other states are morally allowed to have nuclear weapons.

On a last important note: The Iran nuclear program is not to create atomic bombs. But it’s for nuclear-energy.

Jeremy: you know more than me, that what USA and Israel want is to steal the oil of Iran, like they tried to do with Iraq. Get real, that the real intentions of the evil USA and the evil Israel is to steal Iran’s oil !!!

Face it: USA and Israel are 2 evil, fascist rogue failed corrupt imperialist oil-thieves states.

Jeremy. Perhaps we can continue our exchange by email.

But let me say here that I believe the most meaningful step Obama could take in international relations is ONE SMALL STEP BACK, and join the rest of the world in seriously seeking solutions to international problems at the United Nations.

It may be that this colors my reading of the NPT – because it’s still difficult for me to believe the non-nuclear nations were so naive as to think the United States, the USSR, Red China, Britain, and France would subsequent to the NPT’s adoption be making nuclear technology available TO ANYONE.

It’s also difficult for me to believe any country other than Israel is the major threat to initiate a sequence of events leading to nuclear winter, specifically, by nuking Iran. And I agree with Mulga and other commentators above that Israel is America’s cat’s paw in the middle east.

This IS an enormously complicated subject, and I emailed you about it yesterday. I’m afraid this thread has been hijacked by the preachers, and is lost to substantive discussion.

Apparently at the ABC yeshiva they imagine no-one knows who Abrams is and what his record, or perhaps they just don’t care. The ‘interview’ was the usual ingratiating imbecility, but Abrams made pretty plain that as far as the Judeofascist neo-conservative Right is concerned, the treaty is a dead duck. bozh, militant Israelis would agree wholeheartedly that “survival is all”…but from many months of (very sporadically) reading your comments at DV, I’m sure you don’t meant those three words to excuse their slow and improved genocidal war on the Palestinians.

And Mulga, it scares me too much to put it the way you do, regarding who is whose cats-paw in the middle-east.

But reading a person of Jeremy Hammond’s repute flat out denying even an international lawyer’s argument that the NPT contains a loophole allowing “a natural right of self-defense” in case a non-NPT signatory like Israel threatens them with nuclear weapons, scares me worse.

  22. Jeremy said on May 15th, 2009 at 6:47pm #

What should scare people is that people reading my comments can somehow draw out of them, like water from a stone, that I deny that nations have a right to self-defense when threatened by nuclear weapons.

I shouldn’t have to point out to the more perceptive readers that I neither said nor implied any such thing.

Lloyd, your reading of the NPT is simply wrong. It is simply wrong to say that it allows for nations to build nuclear weapons, whatever the circumstances. You may not agree with it. I may not agree with it. In fact, I think the NPT is quite flawed. But it is what it is, and there’s no sense in saying it is what it isn’t just because that’s what we’d like it to be.

Now, if commentors would kindly abstain from putting words in my mouth, that would be nice. If anyone wants to know what I think about something, you could ask and actually learn before telling people what my views are. You know, instead of just being ignorant.

While freely spewing out misinterpreted and unrelated negative statements from Ahmadinejad, the western media ignores the fact that Ayatollah Khamenei issued a fatwa (in this case the fatwa comes from the Shiite Ayatollah leading the country and is binding for them, so no need to remind me that Sunni fatwas aren’t binding) against production, stockpiling and use of nuclear weapons. Saying that it is forbidden under Islam and that Iran shall never acquire them.
For the confused, it is the Ayatollah and not the President that is the supreme leader of Iran.

  24. Mulga Mumblebrain said on May 16th, 2009 at 12:01am #

Yes Rahb, Khamenei issued such a fatwa, but as far as the Zionist controlled media in this country, and the rest of the West as far as I can ascertain, is concerned, the leaders of Iran are evil liars, ‘New Nazis’ bent on a ‘New Holocaust’ that existentially threatens poor little Israel, bereft of defence, aside from its several hundred thermo-nuclear and neutron weapons. Mind you I have little time for theocrats, but as far as I can discern the leadership in Israel, the US and the rest of the West are out and out psychopaths. I find the insistent message that it is the ‘Islamists’ who are attacking poor innocent Westerners, who have done nothing to deserve this brutal aggression worthy of Orwell crossed with Kafka, with a little Lewis Carroll thrown in. The Western Right seems on one level utterly oblivious to the millions of followers of Islam killed, maimed and driven into exile over the last sixty years, but particularly since 1991, in the Middle East, but on the other completely aware, but either uninterested or well satisfied by these Hitlerite crimes. I mean, what sort of diabolical society is it that allows a creature like Madeleine Albright, who openly declared that the cruel murder of 500,000 Iraqi children under the sanctions regime was a price that was ‘worth it’, not only to escape any censure, let alone punishment, but also to continue to preach and prattle on about ‘morality’ in foreign affairs. The cynical hypocrisy and rank impertinence outdoes any self- exculpating statement from any Nazi that I am aware of. I think we have very nearly no chance of changing this Satanic system before it destroys us all, but the first step must be to stop deluding ourselves concerning the character of those in positions of power throughout the West. I find it hard to nominate any establishment figure in politics, the media or business who is not a malignant fool at best, or a tiny excrescence of pure evil in most other cases.

US gang, in nature of it, had been over 3-4 centuries the same but its brutality increases as technology of killings/aimings/destruction gets ‘better’.
thus, clinton may have been worse than bush 1 and Obama worse than bush 2 only because of ‘improvement’ in technology of death and the rise in resistance to US occupation and crimes. tnx

US gang, probably consist of 50mn rabid members, and most or all are surviving and getting stronger militarily. I cld emend evaluation about this gang by saying that along surviving, acqusition of land and more power is also high on the list of priorities.

Thank you for your post. You are correct when you write “Zionist propaganda, the Israeli ruling elite and its stooges in the US and other Western countries are possessed of a visceral hatred for Islam.”
The reason behind this is that the racist Zionists think that Arabs and Muslims are a force against their expansionist policy thus they resort to anything including mass murder, expulsion, theft of land and resources, assassination in Palestine and other countries, destabilization of other countries to divide and create non-Arab states as ally using their influence in the western capitals to achieve their goal, “the greater Israel” and finally the “world government.” They have been successful to achieve some of their goals through proxy, the United States. I was shocked to read that:
    {Mubarak’s foreign ministry said that Lieberman offenses and insults against Husnim Mubarak won’t constitute an obstacle in Egyptian-Israeli relations. In fact, added a foreign ministry spokesperson, Israeli leaders are encouraged to humiliate, insult, and castigate Husni Mubarak because the man is used to humiliation.}
But the at the same time the puppet Mubarak, makes so much trouble and demand from Iran, Hamas and Hezbollah to carry out his mission as a Zionist servant in the region. The same is true with other Arab ‘leaders’ whom are called “the moderate Arab States” such as Saudis – Jordan – Egypt. Majority of Arab population are against them as much as they are against the racist and war criminals, the Zionist and their western ‘elites’ in the US and other western capitals like England and its extension, Canada, Australia, France, and other countries. As you know there is so much propaganda against ‘Islamist’ to turn Americans and other population of the west against Muslims. Obama has done nothing to stop this nonsense and he will do nothing to bring peace to our region since they need DESTABILIZATION to carry out their criminal act. You are correct when you think that nothing going to happen to bring peace and justice for the Palestinian because the US presidents, senate and congress are under influence of Zionism to the core. Only the closet Zionists think otherwise. As John Mearshameimer has recently written:
    {Since 1967, every American president has opposed settlement-building in the Occupied Territories. Yet no president has been able to put meaningful pressure on Israel to stop building settlements, much less dismantle them. Perhaps the best evidence of American impotence is what happened during the Oslo peace process in the 1990s. Israel confiscated 40,000 acres of Palestinian land, constructed 250 miles of connector and bypasses roads, doubled the number of settlers, and built 30 new settlements. President Clinton did hardly anything to halt this expansion. The main reason no president has been able to stop Israel from colonizing the Occupied Territories is the Israel lobby.}

Of course, the Israel Lobby is not limited to the lobby per say, the closet Zionists are part of this lobby as well to divert attention from WMD of Israel onto legal enrichment program of Iran to turn public opinion against Iran to buy more time for Israel to finish its goal of stealing Palestine entirely and re-arrange the region map to benefit Israel.
Mulga: you are correct when you see the demonization of Islam and Muslims by the Zionist and their slaves including Obama. Obama may fool many in the western countries but he cannot fool the population of the targeted countries. He has lost his image as a Black president and people see nothing but WHITENESS, like the racist Zionists and their puppets Bush and McCain.
Mulga: please take a minute and look at the following link to see who is going to a conference against ‘Islamist’, DEMONIZATION OF MUSLIMS ALL OVER THE WORLD, on May 19, 2009. Senator Arlen Specter who has recently become a ‘democrat’ is one of the speakers. As you see all of them are active ZIONISTS. An Iranian Zionist puppet by the name of Hassan Daioleslam also is taking part with these war criminals. He is nothing but a Charlatan who is actually supported by one of the DV commentators by the name of MIKE NIVEN, presented him a socialist pro Trotsky on this web site. Hassan Daie who writes about an imaginary ‘Iranian Lobby’, similar to an imaginary nuclear weapon program where Zionists are trying to establish, is helping the Zionist lobby to carry out its criminal activity in the US to influence Obama and the US elites to write policy in favor of the Zionist state against the rest of the countries in the region. Thus, it is very important to mobilize our population in the region and beyond against the enemy of the humanity. Unity of all people regardless of their background is essential.
    Hassan Daioleslam Alan Dershowitz
    Frank Gaffney
    Brooke Goldstein, David Harris
Joe Kaufman, Marc Lebuis, Alan Mendoza (Executive Director, The Henry Jackson Society)

We call Egyptians Arab since they speak Arabic. Many Egyptian may not considered themselves an Arab and only Egyptian. In addition to Muslims, as you said, there is Coptic who is Christian where the West and the Zionists keep their eyes on them to use them against Muslims to creade tension in order for them to rule.
The Zionists are also active among Berbers in number of North African countries like Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria. I think the tension between Berber and ‘Arab’ in Morocco is serious. Israel is involved in many conflicts and tensions in the region including Sudan through Save Darfur. They need destabilization to reach their goals. This is not hidden if you have read Odid Yinon “Strategy for Israel in the 1980s” where he says: To survive, Israel must
    1) Become an imperial regional power
    2) Must effect the division of the whole area into small states by the dissolution of all existing Arab states. Small here will depend on the ethnic or sectarian composition of each state. Consequently, the Zionist hope is that sectarian-based states become Israel’s satellites and, ironically, its source of moral legitimation.

He said:
    {What I have said is that we want to offer Iran an opportunity to align itself with international norms and international rules,” the US president noted in his Saturday interview.}

Thank you for your post. You are absolutely right in what you are saying. They have many Zionist puppets in the office in western capitals. By the way the Russians also are siding with the Zionists. Don’t be a fool when Russian diplomats first disagree with the puppet of Jewish lobby, the president, in Washington. The events in the past have shown that Russians always sided with these criminals but first they say NO to squeeze the biggest concession out of Washington with the help of the Zionist lobby.
America is dominated and run by a fifth column the Jewish Lobby. Jane Harman who made a deal with a fifth Colum, the Jewish Lobby, to let the Zionist spies go free with the help of a puppet, Barak Obama, the black Jewish president, while Larry Franklin, the other spy in this case, convicted and received more than 12 years in prison under George Bush but the Zionist Jews, Rosen and Weismann let free. It is obvious that Obama has much less power to prevent the Jewish Lobby interference in the writing of foreign policy.
This video shows how the Jewish lobby wants to bring Iran down. Jane Harman who helped the Zionist spies, where in the other country would have been removed from the job and put on trial as a traitor, where in some country is punishable by death, tells the AIPAC audience about passing a law to block the import of refined petroleum product to Iran to create riots for regime change. In addition she clearly wants to implement ODID YINON, the Zionist journalist who wrote ‘Israel strategy in the 1980’ where gave instruction how to realize ‘The greater Israel’ in the region, a preliminary step towards “world Government.” She is talking at the AIPAC, a fifth column, telling the spies we have to create more destabilization in Iran so we can divide the country to many pieces, all these act is against the international law.
Since a liar does not remember all she has said, tells the audience WE ARE NOT AGAINST IRANIAN PEOPLE where she is seeking the partition of their country. SHAME ON AMERICA that allows a fifth column liar runs the foreign policy.

Allen Dershowitz was asking the United States leadership to attack Iran and kill Iranian leaders, where according to their own vocabulary, would be a terrorist act. He is also a holocaust denier of toddlers, children and civilian in GAZA genocide. If a Muslim suggests as Dershowitz has suggested, he would have been immediately removed from his position at Harvard University to be shipped to Guantanamo but since he is from the Jewish lobby, he has paid no price for inciting to kill and spreading his propaganda against humanity where he has protection from prosecution because he hides himself behind the holocaust industry as well as ‘the chosen people’ industry. At the same time a lawyer by the name of Sylvia Stolz (Mary’s link) who performs her duty to defend others, receives 3 1/2 years in prison for doing so. Who wants to live under the rule of Zionism where has turned the world into a big CAGE.
Now, Dershowitz wants to prosecute Ahmadinejad since he has DARED to say why did one group among so many groups who lost large number of their population become the face of the holocaust? SHAME ON AMERICA TO BE SILENT against those who suggest and support torture of Muslims and are inciting people to kill leaders of other countries yet they remain a ‘law professor’ at Harvard University, an empire building place.

RH2,I think that Iran is freer than the “free world”.Ahmadinejad is the only one (with Chavez) who dare to speak with clear voice what the majority of the people in the world think:Israel and US are the first danger for the peace in the world. But excepting Paul Craig Roberts no one rises to defend him against the campaign of his demonization .Maybe in the West the lesbians and the homo have more freedom but it is all.And in the next elections in Iran are still two candidates with different platform than Ahmadinejad. The freedom in Occident are an axiom that is hard to sustain. This is a quote from an article published in Antiwar written by William Widen:”In case you haven’t heard, the Iranian “Hitler,” President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is up for reelection in June. And you would think that nothing could possibly be more important on the international front than defeating “Hitler” at the ballot box. Isn’t he “Hitler,” after all? And not just any old “Hitler” – the way, say, Muammar al-Gaddafi and Manuel Noriega and Saddam Hussein were seen as “Hitlers” in their day. No, Ahmadinejad is treated as the worst of all the “Hitlers.” Namely, a “Hitler” who has openly, sort of, said that he wants to “wipe Israel off the map” (or so the gross misquotation goes) as soon as his mad Muslim minions can develop a nuclear warhead and a missile to deliver it. That is why Israel is talking about launching a preemptive strike against this “Hitler’s” nuclear strikes, is it not?

So you would think that the White House and the American press would be moving heaven and earth to support a reformist candidate like former Prime Minister Mir-Hossein Mousavi right now if it means denying “Hitler” four more years to advance his alleged “plan.” And there is an actual chance that Mousavi could beat him.”
I think that that Hossein Moussavi is free to criticize Ahmadinajad in Iranian newspapers and seam that he sees a total other way for Iran.I remember the “confronting” between Sarkozy and Segolene Royal at the last elections in France on foreign policy. The issues debated where:the genocide in Darfur and the Iranian danger.About US i remember the vote in Congress which justified the Israel action in Gaza:396 -4.

for mary especially–more good news for the world from the jewish state of israel

Tomato concentrate in pill form can significantly reduce blood pressure, according to research by Prof. Esther Paran, head of the hypertension unit at Soroka University Medical Center and the Ben-Gurion University Health Sciences Faculty in Beersheba.

The latest issue of the BGU newsletter Alef Bet Gimmel reports on her research, which should be a lifesaver to hypertension patients whose blood pressure has not dropped enough even while taking several medications. Excessively high blood pressure raises the risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease and other disorders. Hypertension is defined as having readings over 140/90, but doctors now recognize the condition pre-hypertension as anything over 120/80, which is the normal level. Those with pre-hypertension are at higher risk of these diseases and should be treated.

Research has shown that antioxidants – which fight oxygen free radicals in the body – reduce high blood pressure. Carotenoids have been linked to oxidation-preventing mechanisms. Among the substances with the most antioxidants are carotenoids, which are organic pigments in foods, especially fruits and vegetables. But Paran has found that concentrated tomatoes (a major source of the prostate-cancer-fighter lycopene) is the most effective carotenoid of all.

She conducted an eight-week study of hypertension patients who have high blood pressure despite taking two different medications. In the controlled experiment, those who took tomato-concentrate pills had a significant drop in blood pressure and didn’t have to take a third medication. It has also brought pressure down in people who had not yet begun taking medication. As a result of this proof, BGU and Soroka screened faculty and other staff members for high blood pressure and gave tomato-concentrate pills to those who needed them.

Several tomato-concentrate pill brands are sold in pharmacies and health food stores. A month’s supply is NIS 80.

A list of goods that the Zionist terror state is not allowing into Gaza.

    Sunday, 17 May 2009
Sausages, tea, coffee, semolina… Weapons of mass consumption?
Israel bans books, music and clothes from entering Gaza
    By Amira Hass

Israel allows only food, medicine and detergent into the Gaza Strip. Thousands of items, including vital products for everyday activity, are forbidden. Altogether only 30 to 40 select commercial items are now allowed into the Gaza Strip.

Gaza merchants are forbidden to import canned goods, plastic sheeting, toys and books, although the United Nations Relief and Works Agency and other aid organizations are permitted to bring them into the strip.

The few items merchants are allowed to trade in are divided into three categories: food, medicine and detergent.

Everything else is forbidden – including building materials (which are necessary to rehabilitate Gaza’s ruins and rebuild its infrastructure), electric appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines, spare machine and car parts, fabrics, threads, needles, light bulbs, candles, matches, books, musical instruments, crayons, clothing, shoes, mattresses, sheets, blankets, cutlery, crockery, cups, glasses and animals. Many of the banned products are imported through the tunnels and can be found in Gaza’s markets.

Tea, coffee, sausages, semolina, milk products in large packages and most baking products are forbidden. So are industrial commodities for manufacturing food products, chocolate, sesame seeds and nuts.

In the past, Israel allowed wood for home furnishings to be brought into Gaza for some time, but not wood for windows and doors. Now Israel has resumed the ban on wood for furniture.

The ban on toilet paper, diapers and sanitary napkins was lifted three months ago. A little more than a month ago, following a long ban, Israel permitted the import of detergents and soaps into Gaza. Even shampoo was allowed. But one merchant discovered that the bottles of shampoo he had ordered were sent back because they included conditioner, which was not on the list.

Five weeks ago Israel allowed margarine, salt and artificial sweetener to be brought into Gaza. Legumes have been allowed for the past two months and yeast for the past two weeks.

The number of items changes according to what is determined by Israel’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories. COGAT refuses requests for an updated list in writing of the items permitted into Gaza, and passes the information only via the telephone.

    Read article in full… http://stopwar.org.uk/content/view/1241/27/

Perhaps a viewing of this tragic video might wipe the smirk off the faces of Israel’s supporters. This beautiful young mother loses her first baby Firas. Tomato paste indeed.

If you are not a clergy man and open your mouth against the regime, you will find yourself in a dark prison and will probably not walk out, unless you have some western citizenship. Nevertheless there is no reason to nuke or attack Iran. The alleged Iranian threats are Zionist distortions to justify an attack against Iran and thus protect imperial hegemony in the region. This is unacceptable and the Iranians do have the right to defend themselves. But they would fail to tell us that the Iranian regime were free and life friendly. That is why I was irritated when you mentioned “missing” freedom of speech in Germany. Do you have any better freedom of speech in Iran? more good news for mary

When Israel’s only official coexistence soccer team visits Germany next week, its goal will not be just to score big on the playing field; it will also aim to showcase a successful model of cooperation and tolerance between Arabs and Jews, fostered through sports for the past five years between two neighboring towns just outside Jerusalem.

The Hapoel Abu Ghosh Mevaseret Zion soccer team works to promote coexistence between the two communities.

As guests of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Hapoel Abu Ghosh-Mevaseret Zion’s youth team will visit Berlin to present the club’s unique model of mutual acceptance and coexistence to the German public – and, of course, to play two matches, one against Hertha BSC Berlin’s youth team and one against the Jewish team Maccabi Berlin.

“Our project is not only about playing soccer. More importantly, it’s about improving relations between two communities who live side by side in Israel,” the club’s Jewish president, Alon Liel – a former Foreign Ministry director-general and a resident of Mevaseret Zion – told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.

“It’s also about fostering understanding and accepting each other’s culture,” stated the club’s Arab chairman, Muhammad Jaber, who also manages the community center in the mostly Muslim Abu Ghosh.

He added, “This is a special team that has been playing and training together for the past five years. The players have grown up together, and while there were some clashes between them at first, all of them are now very proud of their Jewish-Arab team.”

Hapoel Abu Ghosh-Mevaseret Zion’s adult team currently plays in the country’s Southern Regional League and hopes to advance to the National League next year.

While Jews and Arabs do play together on other Israeli soccer teams, Hapoel Abu Ghosh-Mevaseret Zion is the only club that strictly adheres to joint and equal Jewish-Arab management – three from each town – and has a clear aim of promoting coexistence between the two communities. Its main goal is to show how playing soccer can help bridge cultural, linguistic, ethnic and religious divides.

“Football unites people,” said Stephan J. Kramer, secretary-general of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, which will oversee the visit of the 21-member delegation. “However, it also can cause animosity, and in extreme cases, football stadiums can become an arena for racism and violence.”

Kramer explained to the Post that in Germany, such behavior at soccer events has become increasingly commonplace.

“The [Hapoel Abu Ghosh-Mevaseret] team shows how common ground can be found between two populations of different backgrounds and how neighbors can become friends,” he added.

“There is a lot of racism in football today, and the situation in Israel is especially difficult,” said Liel, pointing to recurring incidents between players and fans of the country’s premier league teams. “We hope that our approach will help encourage change and acceptance, because sports cannot be a place where racism is allowed to grow.”

The youth team’s manager, Eldad Hayet, whose son, Or, plays on the team, said that like any soccer team, this one also had its disagreements. However, “they are never based on the player’s cultural or religious differences,” he said.

“In a country with so many problems, I am proud that we can show how Jews and Arabs can work together in such a positive way,” he added. “This proves that if two communities want to work with each other, then it is possible.”

During its visit to Germany, the 16 team members and its five managers will also meet with German politicians and media representatives to demonstrate how they have used the popular sport to build bridges between the communities.
