In my eye of mind,

Small-sail sloops and palmfrond trees

Ring the sugar blue sweet sea

Like colored shells on circled throat --

Tahiti maiden, golden find.

You are, remain, more than real to me,

Surpass enough, create a languid sea

Of metaphor within which drench

My skin, a jagged island sun,

No manner water give, can quench.
