Farms are raided by masked men, the paramilitary marches
through a public park where children play,
thousands are disappeared, the family separation of
2017 exponentially multiplied
The idea of protection, for whom, by whom
It is always for the in-group, everywhere, in
every time. But now the peachy in-group, with
socially illiterate minds, has woven their
internal bonds with thick, magnetic fibers
and anyone outside the dreadful anti-constitutional
basket means less to them than a stain
on staid kitchen wallpaper
The idea of protection, for whom, by whom
The rage at those outside tribe
demands action, radicalism, insurrection
Protection of the white against the noncriminal
demands criminality and detention center torture,
where during the scorching Arizona summer,
no AC will be used for hours, then ramped up
to Arctic levels only to be cut again.
It demands unaccountability and
for visiting legislators to be roughed up.
Because – after all – this is America, land of the free,
home of the coward
where anyone of non-European descent is a monster
where a rich white wannabe dictator is worshipped,
ignored, or worse, normalized.
As if everything were the same as before,
even though priests tell their parishioners
not to come to mass for fear of their disappearance
by masked government agents –
All in protection of white fragility that
has grown oh trepidatious at the faint whiff
of losing its dominance
