To be born a sentient being
Is to inherit certain rights
Like breathing the open air
And taking in the sunlight
To be born a human being
Is to have the right to think
To question and believe
To cast it down in ink
To be born in a community
Is to walk a certain path
To feel a sense of unity
And the right to walk it back
To be born into a nation
Is to learn the nation’s story
To share its obligations
To be humbled by its glory
To be born in a land of plenty
Is to feel a poor man’s needs
And to know that there are many
Who prosper by their greed
