Be Attitude

While the donors build a palatial party room,
the benevolent are donating nothing but their time.

While the elected vacate their jobs to celebrate blame,
the food pantry lines are long, the children are hungry.

While the sanctimonious don their gold crosses and name-call,
the charitable attend to the shelters for the least of these.

While the angry voices with microphones dissect the nation,
the faithful are praying for peace.

While the leaders lust for war and give to other countries,
the American proletariat work for no pay.

While the privileged eat cake,
the kindhearted hunger for righteousness.

Someday, the merciful will be shown mercy, the
mourners will be comforted, and the humble exalted.

Until then good people will do good work, the generous
will give what is lacking in our leaders’ hearts,

the pure in soul will find hope,
and the meek will inherit the earth.

(Matthew 5:3-12)
