The Janitor and His Plow

Pushing and pulling the
vacuum cleaner like the old
plow says the janitor
reigns, harness, and horse
sweat and dirt, muscle and
bone, the yellow cord
burning between my palms
the fresh smell of carpet
the stinky underarms, the
janitor’s closet like the barn.
Placed back on the hook.
