Duplex on U.S. Freedom

freedom of speech, bastion of democracy—
a democracy for only the powerful.

the powerful::white, propertied men 
who gaze at all “Others” as animals

to be corralled & controlled::objects of their gaze.
rule of law has never existed::genocide & enslavement its origins.

in this country, $ & whiteness trumps rule of law. 
white supremacy::white supremacy no matter the years.

some years its overt; while others, just under the surface.
any change is surface level at best, psychological at worst.

the psychological buy-in of empire—enthralling::insidious, 
allowing us to evade the costs of our privileges & the ruins left in our wake.
