Sounds of Winter
by Margaret Kiernan / April 13th, 2025
Greenlanders are flying south.
They move in a vee formation,
chatter in wind
that smells of snow.
Winter has arrived in a murmur of
long nights, wild storms will follow.
Beside the lake of Lough Iron,
the geese settle, cackle and call
in the callows,
they share the land with hefty cattle.
A metronome of time is
gathering in.
