Caught a peeping-tom
Looking into my mind
While changing into someone
I’m not, knowing me before I did, but
This was not authentic me
Both of us were surprised
It mattered not, as I have other personas
To wear, some with matching masks
Depending on the event and circumstances
At times, I have forgotten my way home
Stayed in character too long
Behind closed doors, I can reveal to myself
Once again, of who it is that I am
Important to keep the blinds closed
As one never knows who is watching
Or, on assignment to expose me
Concerning a possible facade…
Mind games where rules change daily
Only thing we know for sure,
Is that we don’t know for sure!
It appeared this peeping-tom and I
Knew someone in common, and
He would vouch for him
I chose to let him go, with a warning…
I learnt long ago, the hard way, that
Emotional affairs, are covert, at first
Causing chaos when discovered far
Behind enemy lines, one’s cover exposed!
Without proper papers and no alibi
Makes for a difficult get away…
Another would – be victim of lust
But, escape I do, open-windows, and
A waiting vehicle rushes me by a firing-squad
I take refuge in my home behind closed doors
Carefully burning that persona and papers
Secretly, I think of her as I lie low.
