(Sleepless)

Less by hills than by concrete (Photo: Faye Sarras)

From her sleep great tasks call,
winds through valleys large and small,
shaped less by hills than by concrete,
roads instead of rivers sweet.
Arise she must with ne’er a wink,
more to labour than to think,
still her heart and mind embrace
blesséd nature with constant grace.
