A New State of Being
by Scott Thomas Outlar / January 1st, 2023
She asked me, “Who are you?”
And I said, “I’m Scott”
from behind a beard
that might have signified wisdom
if not just a sign of age.
And then she asked, “Why are you?”
To which I was briefly perplexed
because of the profundity
seeming to ooze energetically
from the source of her words,
before I looked around, smiled,
and replied:
“Just to be.”
And that dream
announced my purpose
in the New Year.
