Of crippling loans
From the International Money Fuckers
That will leave them more deeply indebted
And thus assure their loyalty
To the Colossus of the North.

Is limited to those nations
That reject even the whiff,
Much less the stench,
Of socialism
And instead bury their noses
In the sweet aromas
Of neoliberal bouquets
Available exclusively at fashionable florists
In the very best neighborhoods.
Participation in the Summit of the Americas
Aims to assure that the status remains quo
That the petty oligarchs and tyrants in power
South of the border
Will reap riches and rewards
Beyond imagining
As long as they remain subservient
To the hegemon.

The view is panoramic
From there you can see
All the nations of Latin America,
The compliant ones
Politely lined up
Hats in hand
The defiant ones –
Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba —
Toiling ceaselessly
To overcome the deadly effects of embargoes
And sanctions
Imposed for their refusal
To toe the hegemon’s line.
From the summit of the Summit of the Americas
The view is magisterial
From there you can see all the way
To Russia and China.
