Coming Awake and Doubling Down
by Scott Thomas Outlar / June 12th, 2022
I followed the choices
of my inverted, masochistic
ideas of folly
out to and past the edges
of both boohoo
and unimaginable jubilation
for a couple of decades
before I finally learned
to simply shut up
and crank out the jams
in silence
while deciphering the game
What they sold us
was a tall tale
and now we’re
neck deep
in the consequential
cross-currents
but I’ve always
loved the waves
no matter
how hard
they slap
