Choose

“We need to be able to choose
our battles,” said the leader
of people devoted to non-

violence – a tenet we adopt
in order to contain the base
violence we abhor when

we employ the non that we,
well, abhor in our fashion too.
So, in non-battling we order

the prescribed silver chalices,
but we pay just a bit more
for the ones that look,

by an accident of peaceful
indiscretion, like patterned
steel, the design of swords.
